Hello,
It sounds like the gear range sensor is out but to be sure lets use these guides and the wring diagrams below to help pinpoint the problem. There is a starter relay as well the location is below.
Here are the starter wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Thanks for this post I had this problem and had to get a new starter relay all fixed! Cost me $34.00
