I bought a used S-Type 3 1/2 yrs. Ago it had 22,000 miles. It now has 78,000 miles. I recently had the transmission rebuilt (among other things) and now I have a check engine light. The diagnostic code reads 1388 - Auto Shutdown Relay Circuit. I'm trying to exhaust all avenues before dumping another load of money into this car. I'm wondering if the following things could be causing this problem. 1) I've been alternating premium with mid-grade fuel b/c of escalating costs 2) My coolant reservoir has a slow leak - I keep it filled but haven't had it replaced yet. I've been told it could be just a sensor but they need to take the engine apart to find out. Is that necessary?
