1998 Other Jaguar Models message restricted performance

We are getting a message restricted performance and we are unable to drive our car faster than about 45 without it jerking or missing

Have the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic computer to locate the cause of the fault. Could be a simple coil failure. The fault codes stored ont the cars computer will pinpoint the cause
