Engine Mechanical problem

I just purchased a 1997 Jaguar XK8. The car quits without warning while driving. I've read lots of information that blames fuel pumps, MAF sensors, throttle bodies, etc. People claim to have spent thousands of dollars trying to fix this problem with no luck. I believe this problem is so prevalent that there has to be somebody who has successfully cleared up this problem. Do you have any idea what I can do to resolve this issue before my family and I get killed on the interstate. Thanks.
