Do I need to remove the steering wheel as some on the internet suggested? Hope not but what ever I need to do. I am apprehensive about the air bag so any suggestions or advice is welcome.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi,

You can remove the shroud around the column, but that isn't going to get you to the multi function switch. To access that wiring, the steering wheel does need removed. As far as the air bag, here is what the manual says.

Warning: following disconnection of the battery, a period of at least one minute must be allowed to elapse before any work is carried out on an air bag module.

I would allow it to sit for approximately 20 minutes.

Here are directions for removal of the switch. The attached pics correlate with the directions.
