When I put the car in drive it does not take off. I have to shift first gear then go to second gear and then put in drive for the car to change gears.

Hi Moneak, sounds like your transmission is not an automatic anymore. The fluid level is okay? When is the last time it was serviced? Is there a check engine light that is always illuminated on your dashboard?

I just checked this morning and all the transmission fluid had leaked on the ground. How can it be fixed and what is the price range?

The price varies because there a few places where the transmission can leak. The repairs can vary from headache to nightmare. Do you work on your own car much? Can you jack the car up and get under to see what part of the transmission the leaks are coming from?
Its possible to be a simple drain plug or drain pan to be leaking. But it needs to be seen exactly where the leaks coming from.

It goes into drive and reverse like it usually does?
It goes into first gear but does not shift into second or third?
You filled transmission with fluid because it leaked out a lot, right?
You are sure it is full? Because sometimes transmissions do not act right when they do not have the right amount of fluid in it.
