Do I need to use sealant when replacing head gasket

No, you do not use any type of sealant when installing the head gasket. Just make sure all surfaces are clean/prepped to ensure a quality seal. Hopefully you had the cylinder head checked for warpage or defects before installing. Hey Danny thanks a lot for the tips. I got my car all put back together and it is running smoothly. One more quick question, do I need to re-torque my head bolts after so many miles to make sure they keep the correct torque? I have heard mixed opinions on this. Thanks.

I do not think that is necessary. Did you use new head bolts? Or reuse the old ones?

Yes, I did this time the last time. I changed my head gasket 30,000 miles ago. I reused the head bolts and they loosened on me so I bought new ones this time to be sure.
