So there are a few things that could be causing your issue. First, I would suggest pulling the check engine codes (if there are any). Below is a link with more information on how to do that.

It does sound like it could be a crankshaft position sensor, but I would follow the testing suggestions in the links I gave you before you spend the money on the part!
