1998 Isuzu Trooper starts but won't idle

It will start but I have to keep my foot on the gas pedal and my other foot on the brake to keep the RPM up or it just stops. I can drive it with the RPM above 1500 but as soon as I would take my foot off the gas pedal it will die. In this mode it shifts funny too.

Clean out the idle air control valve and EGR and PCV valves and test the throttle position sensor-

Thank you very much for the info. I was able to clean all the parts indicated in the answer to my problem and the car is running much better.
