My Trooper rather suddenly, halfway through a tank of regular gas, started spark knocking, a condition that has persisted since it first appeared two weeks ago.

Once it has warmed up, the Trooper spark knocks when the engine is under load. Although one can attain road speeds with careful and gradual application of the throttle, if I try to accelerate more than very gradually a cacophony of spark knocking ensues.

The idle speed has remained the same.

Check if the engine is overheating, test the EGR valve if its opening and the knock sensor might not be retarding the ignition timing
