I have a 1989 Isuzu trooper 188000 mile, 2.8L. The keys were accidently left in the ignition in the On position for about and hour. Came back and the battery was a little low but it cranked. Recharged battery but it still would not start. It's getting fuel but no spark to the plugs. Resistance checked the coil (which is brand new) and it is ok. Any ideas?

I highly expect this is a simple fuse issue. On these vehicles the coil is run directly off fuse 14 and I attached a wiring diagram below.

If you have no spark, then I suspect when you left the key on this fuse was blown and left you with a no start issue.

Here is a guide that will help with this:

If this is not the issue then we need to check the voltage is getting to the coil from the fuse.

If this is ok, then I suspect you have an issue in the module that is contained in the distributor. Basically, this is what is responsible for creating your high voltage spike and if the coil is new then it is not getting this signal and that would be your issue.

Please see the wiring diagram below and let me know what questions you have.

Thanks
