Whike driving the check engine light come on, what would cause that to happen?

Usually it mean you need a o2 sensor, but it could also mean a number of other things. If I were you I would go to a local auto parts store and have them check the codes (For Free) on the vehicle and they should be able to tell you exactly what it is.
