1992 Trooper, 3.2 auto DOC. 140,000 miles
Truck will start sounding like backfiring under left side. It will then lose power and I am lucky to make it home while its still popping. I have to drive it about 20 miles for this to begin to happen. I can put car in park or netual and it will clear up?
Update-- I took the trooper to transmission shop. They said that the transmission is good. The codes that are popping up are the #32-EGR and #44 02 sensor/ lean.
Its also saying engine misfire?Because of other 2 codes? Now I have to find another shop that works on these. How costly are these? Which one should I start with or change both?

Have your catalytic converter checked because sometimes if the converter is blocked it will cause an o2 sensor error code and possibly the egr

I replaces the 02 sensor and cleaned the egr valve. I can go 10 miles and then it will start the sound of backfiring and losing power. I shut the switch down and can restart and it will drive fine for a couple of miles. Does anyone have anymore ideas. I just dont have the cash to throw into this thing.
Thanks

Take out the oxygen sensor and go for a road test and see if the problem goes away. If you have no power issues after driving for the time frame you said, then I would say that you have a plugged catalytic converter. This is a easy check if you dont have a temp reader.

So Norhawk, do I just unhook the sensor and leave that open or rehook it without it? If it doesn't misfire then that will mean my cat is plugged and I need to replace it? I had to make a new user name for some reason.
If I had a temp reader where whould I hook and read from it? Sorry I'm not very knowledgable.
Thanks for the help

Leave hole open, it'll let exhaust escape before cat. Do you have 4 O2 sensors like my '01 rodeo? Make sure the o2 removed is in front of catalitic closer to engine
