Isuzu Trooper, 1993, 130,000 miles. I'll be needing to take off the pulley, as I'm going to be changing the head gaskets, but I can't figure out how to lock the crankshaft in order to undo the pulley bolt, and then later to instal and torque it. I think there might be an Isuzu part available for this, but can't get hold of it anywhere. Can anyone help?

I don't know the exact belt set-up but us old gray haired mechanics leave on the belt, tighten it good and clamp 2 pieces of wood on the belt where it will bind again anything that will hold.

Use an impact wrench and off comes the bolt.

You will probably need a puller to pull the pully from the shaft. I have a universal Snap On that does the trick. You can probably rent one to do the job.

Maybe you will be lucky and tap the back of the pully on oposite sides with a wood block and it will slide right off.

Good Luck
