I have a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo with 197,635 miles. The AC isn't working, was told that the air compressor was out and would cost 1500.00 to repair. Is it worth getting fixed? Thanks.

Who ever told you that it will cost $1500 is really getting his hose out. A rebuilt compressor from a parts house shouldn't cost over $300. The conversion to R134 is about $75.00 in parts. On the very out side if you do the work, $500.00 If an A/C shop without a hose should be about $800.

Even if you put in anew A/C the truck is still work about 2K but can you replace it for $2K? so the decision is up to you. Good luck

Suggested Repair

The quoted $1500 repair appears high. A rebuilt compressor is typically under $300 and an R134 conversion about $75 in parts; DIY may run about $500 and a shop about $800. Compare that cost with the truck's roughly $2000 value and decide whether the repair is worthwhile.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo with 197,635 miles was quoted $1500 to replace a failed AC compressor and asked if the repair was worth it. The expert said that price is excessive, estimating a rebuilt compressor under $300, about $75 for an R134 conversion, roughly $500 DIY, or about $800 at a shop, and left the decision to the owner given the truck's value.
