I have a 2004 impreza outback. Recently it developed a starting problem. It will turn over and over and over but won't actually fire. The only success I've had is with spraying starting fluid in the intake then it fires hesitantly and runs fine after that. It's not the battery or the starter, I replaced the fuel pump so it has to be something with fuel initially I would guess?

You have a ECT (engine coolant temperature sensor) that can do it, Does this happen after a cold soak?

No its been dry since this started. After some research I'm leaning towards the cam sensor or crank sensor, it doesn't do it on cold starts, just when its been off for an hour or so.

Check fuel pressure is ok, check injection pulse, and check coolant temp sensor, not the temp sender for the gauge.
