This has been a great car. I just changed out the drive belts and upon running the engine coolant began to puddle up under the car. A significant leak, it's the original pump. I checked all the bolts etc. I am having a hard time telling where it's leaking from. Considering its age it's well overdue for replacement. My question is, the water pump driven internally or extremely? I'm confident changing it out as long as it's not tied in with the timing belt because that is something I would leave to a professional to repair for me knowing that replacing the timing belt is a precise procedure that not done correctly will result in engine failure.
All I want to know is if I can change out to water pump without having to mess with the timing belt?

Hello,

On this vehicle, in order to replace the water pump, the timing belt needs to be removed.
So yes, it is more involved process than just removing the drive belt.

I have attached the replacement procedure below for your reference.

Let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
