Is the cold weather the reason for my car shutting off when braking?

Hi there,

My car was driving absolutely fine last night. It is just below freezing here and I've never driven this car in the winter as I only got it in May. My car starts absolutely fine, drives normally but when I come to a stop at traffic or lights, my car stalls, the lights on the dash are still on indicating its possibly not the battery. But the battery and oil light come on but both are recently new. Could the cold weather be causing this?

Hello,

Cutting out when stopping could be caused be several issues

First, is the check engine management light on (MIL)? See image.
If it is the engine management system is picking up faults which could indicate a possible reason for the cutting out.
I would suggest to first carry out a CAN scan using a suitable diagnostic tool and then post the codes on our site for further evaluation.

Also have a look at below link:

Another possible issue could be a sticking EGR valve, see image 2 below
This is a common issue which can cause the engine to stall at idle

Hope this helps.
