Inspect the speedo cable both ends at the tranny and on the speedo head-could be kinked/out of alignment on the head side/tranny-Investigate

What rasmataz said. Also if you have cruise control and not worried about using it you can run a cable from your speedo straight to the tranni instead of it first going through the cruise box.
