Intermittent oil and battery light on

The oil and battery light turn on intermittently when the car is running both on idle and motion. And when this happens, the tachometer goes to zero point. What could be the cause of this problem?

Hi,

For some reason, I can't play the video. Regardless, how long does this last when it happens? Does it seem as though something triggers it?

Since everything you mentioned ties into the instrument cluster, the first thing to check is the connector in the rear of the IC. Make sure it is tight and the wiring is undamaged

If that appears good, then I would suggest scanning the can-bus. Can stands for controller area network. Basically, all the computers/modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link that explains how it is done:

Let me know if you are able to have that done.

I will watch for your reply.

Take care,

Joe

Sorry I sent the snapshot. This is the video. Thanks. I will expect your feedback ASAP. I am a fresh graduate of Automotive Mechatronics Technology. This vehicle belongs to my younger brother who is staying away in another state. He wants my professional advice before taking the car to an auto service shop. I look forward to learning more from you. Thanks.

Hi,

I feel there is a connection issue at the instrument panel. I watched what it does and noted that all fail or work at the same time. Therefore, it wouldn't be a single sensor. Check the connector first. Also, make sure the battery cables are clean and tight, so we aren't losing a ground.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks Joe. I thought as much that the instrument cluster should be checked first. I will update you as soon as I am done checking it out. Thanks. Have a wonderful services.

Hi,

Sounds good. Let me know how things turn out for you. This may actually be the cluster itself that is failing due to a cracked solder joint on a circuit board, but we need to start at some point.

Also, I noticed the speedometer wasn't working either. Does that always happen as well?

Let me know. Here is a link you may find helpful as well:

One other thought. When it is idling and working, have someone watch the gauges as you move around the wiring under the dash and wiggle fuses around to see if we are losing a connection.

Take care,

Joe
