I have a frustrating issue with my car. When I turn it on it idles perfectly and when I rev the engine it sounds totally normal. When I am driving is when the issue arises. When I am accelerating it seems slower than normal to accelerate and if I push too hard it feels as if the engine "wobbles" then it stops when I am up to speed. It is especially prevalent when driving up hill. I was driving up a fairly steep hill and was accelerating to get back up to speed but the engine kicked and that led to a misfire. I pulled over and turned the car all the way off, waited about a minute, then turned the car back on and it was fine, but the check engine light was on. The spark plugs are only 4 months old, and the ignition coils are only 7 months old. I have only added about 5,000 miles since the ignition coils were replaced. My car has a skyactiv engine if that makes any difference. I am having a mechanic replace the cylinder gasket soon because oil is getting in the cylinder 3 head and maybe that is the issue and causing the spark plug to become soiled. Is there advice and what else I could get checked? I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on work that doesn't fix it.

When you say head gasket do you mean valve cover gasket? If so, this makes sense because if oil gets into the spark plug well it will make the cylinder misfire. Here is how to do the job so you know what's going on and ow much it should cost.

Valve Cover Gasket, R&R 1.0 hrs@ shop rate.

Valve Cover Gasket PE0110235 $41.56

This should stop the misfire, but I would replace the spark plug and coil again to make sure they were not damaged. Check out the images (below). Please let us know how it goes.
