Interior lights not working properly

For no apparent reason interior lights go on every once and awhile.
I get them to go off I just smack the left side of dash above light switch and they of out. Or turn the dimmer off.

Hello,

It sounds like it could be the instrument cluster. here is a wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works. also see if pulling the battery saver relay helps. Here is a video of a cluster being removed for rebuild in a similar car the process is the same and the relay location below:

I have not seen a switch fail that way but there is always a first time. Try unplugging the switch to see if it stops. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Same thing, I was told the instrument cluster would control the brake light and the dome lights along with a lot of other devices. is this true?

That is correct. Here is a wiring diagrams of the cluster so you can see how it works and what it controls.
