There is a code on the ECU stating (CD8F01- LIN, message; intelligent battery sensor (IBS): Missing).
Where can I locate the sensor and how can it be tested for?

The sensor is part of the negative battery cable clamp. That fancy block with wiring that goes to the breakout box on top of the battery. Testing wise, you need the BMW factory scan tool or a very good aftermarket unit. In it there is a menu that tests the battery charging and the IBS responses during the test. Missing could be that the LIN connection is unplugged because of a different error. There is a TSB for the more common error. If you find it unplugged and get the error when it's plugged back in you can follow the TSB.

You are welcome. You might want to set down before pricing a replacement if it shows as a failed part.
