Context: Refurbished the heads and installed a complete timing set on this truck.
I’m at the point where I’m installing the crankshaft pulley where you’re supposed to torque the bolt to 66 Ft lbs (seating torque) then ya back it off, (everything slides on like glass...no hang-ups at all).
At this point I wanted to lay eyes on the pulley bore to ensure it was actually seated.
I'm using ALLDATA and it doesn't give any detailed info on how to tell if it's actually seated right or not.
To me it doesn't look right...the inner chamfer on the pulley isn't flush with the crankshaft snout. You'd think at a minimum that it'd be flush there…hence, “seating torque”. However, this is the first time I've done this job and I have no reference to compare it with and don’t want this pulley flying off if I’ve read the instructions wrong.
I’ve included a top down photo showing the relationship (gap - .092") between the pulley and the timing cover, (after the seating torque). The other photos are varying views between the crankshaft snout and the pulley bore hole and its keyway.
I made sure the new oil pump (Melling 340HV) was fully seated. I ensured the lower chain gear was fully on before I installed the timing cover. I made sure the reluctor wheel was actually facing forward.
I'd rather not put the final torque of 37 ft lbs + 60 degree turn on the pulley bolt if it’s not actually seated properly. Need someone else's knowledge and expertise as to whether it looks right OR am I making a mountain out of a mole hill and to just finish the torque sequence?
