I am trying to locate the location of the input and output speed sensors on my 3500 Diesel Silverado. Can you provide a picture or diagram of their location?

Hi,

On this vehicle, both are internal in the transmission. I have attached a pic below showing their locations. (Pic 1)

To replace these sensors, the valve body needs to be removed first. Therefore, the transmission fluid needs to be drained and the transmission oil pan will need to be removed.

The remaining pics below are the directions for replacing both input and output. Note: The transmission solenoids will need to be reprogrammed after this procedure. I attached the directions in the last two pics.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions and how things turn out for you.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you for the quick reply. Attached is the item located on my truck. One auto parts place called it the input speed sensor, and another called it the output sensor. I have ordered this part. Is this the output sensor?

The pic you provided is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) and is mounted on the rear of the transfer case.

Just to confirm, take a look at the two pics below. Is that the same part as you provided?

If not, I need to know which transmission and which transfer case you have. Note: The sensor location is model-dependent.

Let me know.

Joe

This is the part which is different from the picture. The truck has an Allison 6 speed auto transmission (1000?). I did not find a tag for my transfer case.

Hi,

The transmission makes the difference. Both the input and output speed sensors are external, which is good news.

I attached the directions below for replacement. The sensor closest to where the transfer case is located is the output sensor.

Also, please read pic 1 before starting.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
