I replaced an injector on my pickup because it was stuck open. All others were good, now when I turn my key to on position the injector next to it sprays fuel. Checked regulator it is okay. Can anyone tell me why this would happen? Hitachi injectors are very expensive. I am sure the fuel line is installed properly it has been sitting one year. Would it do this if the wire connectors were not on the injectors correctly? If the wrong cap was on the wrong injector? The wires are all a certain length so it is hard to mismatch them I think. Also, are these injector wires color coded? They all seem to have a two color striped wire and then a solid black wire.

After putting the engine back into the truck after being rebuilt I forgot to install the ground strap and also the new battery cable was not grounded to engine either. After grounding it seem to stop spraying the gas. I am not sure if that was the problem or not but it is not doing it anymore. But it is surging at about 2,000 RPM engine goes up and down in RPM and strong smell of raw gas. Any thoughts?

I put new plugs in the truck today started it and ran for five minutes. Still surges at 1,500 rpm. Pulled the plugs and every last one is completely black. Is this this a sign of oil or gas? Plugs are dry. And the black soot wipes right off. What could be causing this? I noticed that number two plug was not quite as bad as 1.3.4. I would love to hear your input.

Good afternoon,

The injectors may have debris on the pindles not sealing off fuel when commanded closed.

I would try adding an additive called Diesel 911. Great additive for fuel injector cleaning.

Try this before assuming they are bad.

Another thing, remove the vacuum line from the regulator on the tube and be sure there is no fuel there. If there is the regulator needs to be replaced.

PROCEDURE
1. Release fuel pressure to zero.
2. Remove injector tube assembly with injectors from intake manifold.

3. Remove injectors from injector tube assembly.
- Push injector tail piece.
- Do not pull on the connector.

4. Install injector to fuel tube assembly.
a. Clean exterior of injector tail piece.
b. Use new O-rings.
Always replace O-rings with new ones.
Lubricate O-rings with a smear of engine oil.
5. Install injectors with fuel tube assembly to intake manifold.
Tighten in numerical order shown in the figure.
a. First, tighten all bolts to 9.3 to 10.8 N.m (0.95 to 1.1 kg-m, 6.9 to 8.0 ft-lb).
b. Then, tighten all bolts to 21 to 26 N.m (2.1 to 2.7 kg-m, 15 to 20 ft-lb).

6. Install fuel hoses to fuel tube assembly.
7. Reinstall any parts removed in reverse order of removal.

Caution: After properly connecting injectors to fuel tube assembly, check connections for fuel leakage.

Thank you. I replaced injector and it did not solve my problem. But I think the MAF and MAP sensors are bad. The diagnostic results showing loop not closed. So I'm not sure what that means other than it's shooting too much gas and no air. Thank you and I now have four extra injectors. Thanks, JC

What about the regulator as I said in my original post?

Yes, I checked the regulator it is fine. The issue with injector is solved. It's my MAF and MAP/baro sensors are bad.
