When getting oil/filter change today, service adviser tried to get me to approve a $190.00 injector/turbo cleaning. He said they run cleaner through the intake. My question is, does this work, or harm engine? Is there a cleaner that you add to gas tank that does the same? I have not had any issues with performance.

Thanks for visiting 2CarPros.

In these GDI motors it is important to have this service done. There is no way for the fuel to clean the intake valves as it did in older fuel injected vehicles as the GDI has an injector that is not behind the valve, but rather directly into the cylinder.

When the cleaner is used in this service it is sucked in through a vacuum line into the intake and is taken along with the air into the combustion chamber and has a chance to clean the intake valve deposits.

Hyundai recommends using top tier gasoline and adding fuel system cleaner every 7500 miles. I would suggest getting the intake cleaning done every 30,000.
