2000 Infiniti I30 spark plug coils

Sorry but it is true.If you replace just one coil, the code wont go away, worst part is that you have to use Nissan coils , otherwise even replacing all of them wont fix it.Im not sure of the exact reason, but I have personally been down this road, and tried just one coil and the car was back the next day.....replace the other 5 with Nissan coils and havent seen it since....(Knock on wood....LOL)

are replacing the coils something that can be done by self?
Have plenty of mech exp.
Is there any special adjustments or measurement sets that need to be made?

I cant remember exactly if anything has to be removed to replace them,but I dont think so.Did a little checking on a Nissan site, and they claim the coils just unbolt and will come right out.Be sure you have Original Equipment plugs as well.

Depending on if they are on the front or back (left or right) side of the engine. If they are on the front, you will need a small allen wrench and remove the Nissan or infiniti 3000 plate. Then unscrew the coil and replace. very easy.

I believe number one is on the back side of the motor. You will need to remove the intake manifold (intake plenum) to get at the coils. Kind of a pain but still do-able for the DIY person. Make sure you tighten the bolts on the intake in the proper order and to the right torque specs.

I replaced one coil, with a used coil, and reset the computer and never saw any code come back. Might happen, might not. Coils are only about 60-70 dollars at the local parts store. Although its a good idea to replace them all, you can replace just one.

UPDATE: I misspoke when I said you will need to remove the intake manifold. You do NOT need to remove it. Removing the coils are very easy. It should be an 8mm screw. Remove screws take old coil out and replace.
