There is black smoke coming from the exhaust and burn to much gas. already had a turn up and replace the idle air control unit, intake manifold. also had a engine diagnostic. that read i need a tune up. What is my next step?

What diagnostic equipment was used that was able to diagnose it requires a tune-up?
Was any diagnostic trouble codes retrieved?
