My service tech at the car dealership where I had some recent repairs iindicated that my throttle linkage needs immediate attention. Please explain in simplistic terms what this is and a ball park estimate of the repair costs. My car has been adequately maintained over its life; I'm attached to it and would like to continue to drive it; however, I don't want to invest an excessive amount in repairs to an 11 year old vehicle. I just spent $1200 for multiple oil leak repairs and spark plug replacement. I am a 68 year old female and don't have a "car advisor". I would appreciate any education you can give me on this subject.

Two things could happen, the cable or other parts could break and you would not be able to drive the car or it could get stuck and the car could accelerate. That is rare, unless its a toyota.

Open your hood and look for 2 wires connected to the throttle body, which it located on the top of the engine on the middle right (drivers) side if you are standing at the front of the car. Grab where the cables are attached to and turn it counter clockwise, it should turn easy. Keep in mind there are springs holding it down. Open the throttle up by turning it, and release it. If it returns back to where it was, it is not sticking and probably wont stick.

I would not replace it unless the wires are frayed, but thats just me.

I would however find a new mechanic. 1200 is a bit steep for the repairs mentioned. Dealers are always more expensive. Local mechanics do just as well on repairs and are much cheeper.

If you want to replace it, the cable is around 35 dollars.

Hope this helps.
