1996 Infiniti I30 EGR, and readiness

My MIL light comes on. "Egr flow is insufficient"
I clear the code, drive a while check again, and EGR is ready.drive about another 10 or so miles, and the light comes back on with same cade. Anyone have a clue why. I also have a knock sensor code, will one trigger the other ?
