I think my timing chain needs to be tightened, I have a terrible noise coming from the engine, that goes away during acceleration, but otherwise is constant. How do I tighten the timing chain in the vehicle?

You don't. You need to replace the automatic tensioner. While you are doing the job, replace the chain and the idler, as well.
