Hi,

I have low profile tires that came with the purchase of my car. I get flats easily as I live in Cleveland, Ohio due to potholes and poor road conditions. Every bump I hit is earth shattering.

The measurements on my current tires are 235/40/18. In an attempt to increase the size of the side walls, would you recommend that I put on new wheels and tires at the measurement of 245/45/17?

Thanks.

Hi,

The present size tire on the vehicle (235 40 18) is an original equipment size. If you have the correct 17" wheel for the vehicle (keep in mind offset plays a big role in how the tire will sit) the size, you indicated would be a good choice. There is a 16% increase in the sidewall. However, the width increases as well by 3.2%, so you have to make sure the room is there for it to fit and not rub.

I've driven through Cleveland many times and totally understand your concerns. LOL

Let me know if this helps. Also, here is an excellent site that compares tire sizes. Check it out. I've used it several times.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.
