I have the vehicle listed above Base. Check engine light popped up the other day, scanned it and it showed code p1717 which mentioned a faulty Neutral Safety Switch. I went ahead and ordered it to be installed right away. I did not change the Neutral safety switch the right way on my car. The car was not on neutral, and I moved the transmission clicking shaft a couple of times to install the new one and now the car can go in Park, Reverse and Low, but it does not want to go in Drive. How can I fix this? Do I just keep clicking the shaft until I get back to the original setting?

Hello, this code is actually "DTC P1717: Open in Transmission Range Switch ATP RVS Switch Circuit", so it might be that you installed the switch improperly, but it also may still be an open circuit somewhere for the trans range switch, Ill post the instructions for installing the switch correctly, and see if that resolves the issue, if not then the circuit needs to be diagnosed.

Here is the process for replacing the Transmission Range Switch, you'll probably have to start at the beginning and go through it again.
I don't know if there's enough room to replace the switch with the battery in or not, but you'll need to line up the switch and the transmission both to the N position. Once it's on correctly, clear the code and if it's still coming back, there's a diagnostic flow chart you can go through. I'll post it just in case, so you don't have to wait if the codes set after redoing the install.
Diagrams 10-17 are for diagnosing the P1717 code, it's a flow chart as well as the PCM location and the C connector pinouts.
