Had a security issue, someone tried to bypass this. Took to Nissan dealership and key was made and re-programmed to computer still wouldn't crank. They said they ran everything down to find that due to trying to bypass shorted wiring and burnt engine control modules up they think. IMMU, ICDM, ECM. I don't have $1,100.00 to fix it. I am recently disabled and awaiting my disability. I am a single 42 year old female with zero income with no help. Homeless pretty much and been without my car for a year and a half. Someone told me I could got to junk yard and get a computer out of a wrecked Altima and have it re-keyed and reprogrammed verses the expense of replacing modules. Can I do this or what other options do I have? Please help

Good morning,

I am afraid to say but they are correct. Bypassing or trying to bypass the security system can and does cause damage to modules from voltage surges.

As far as the alternative, you could try getting used modules and see if the dealer can re program them. If they can, that would be a huge savings. If not, then you need new or manufactured.

Also, if you have comprehensive coverage on your auto policy, I would inquire to see if this failure is covered.

Was the guy that tried the bypass a shop or dealer?
