Ignition lock cylinder

The ignition lock cylinder needs to be replaced, it starts the engine but doesn't turn off. I got a brand new one and replaced it but when you turn the key it doesn't start the engine. When I engage the key the brake light comes on release the key and it goes off. What could be the problem?

Hello,

When you replace the lock cylinder and the keys to your vehicle the keys must be programmed to the vehicle. Your vehicle contains a Passive Anti Theft System (PATS) which consists of a chipped key (radio transponder), a radio receiver ring transponder ring(that goes around the ignition lock cylinder), a PATS module and your vehicle's Power-train Control Module. The only people that are able to program your vehicle's new ignition keys is either the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership or a locksmith. This is intentionally done to keep thieves from going around programming keys and stealing vehicles. Please let us know how everything turns out.
