I am trying to replace the ignition lock assembly due to lost keys. My question is, does one have to remove the lock cylinder from the assembly in order to remove the Park Interlock cable? I cannot get the cable out of the ignition lock assembly. I have depressed the park cable locking tab on the interlock cable and the cable only moves back about 1/16 of an inch. I have not tried using force yet due to not knowing how it is held in. If the lock cylinder has to be removed in order the extract the park locking cable, then how does one remove the lock cylinder without having a key?

You just found the snag in removing most types of lock cylinders, they usually require the correct key to put them into the correct position to be removed.
However there is a solution that is easier than fighting with it. Most locksmiths and dealers can make a call, give an ID number and your VIN and get the original key code to cut a replacement key. This allows you to use the original door locks without fighting.
