My ignition switch locked so it was replaced the key turns now but it will not crank it makes no noise at all. Could the battery be drained, and could the battery being drained cause the ignition switch to lock?

Hi,

When you turn the key, do the dash lights turn on? Does anything electrical, such as the horn or headlamps, work properly?

As far as a possible battery issue, here is a link that explains how to load test one at home without any tools. Try this and let me know the results.

As far as the switch, was it the actual switch or the key/lock cylinder where the key goes? I ask because the lock cylinder is inserted at the end of the housing opposite the ignition switch. If it wasn't properly installed, it may not be making contact with the actual switch. Take a look at the directions below for replacing the lock cylinder.

I don't know if you or someone else did the work, but if it was you, see if there is anything in the directions you may have missed.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

The ignition switch was installed by a professional locksmith but when you turn the key now it makes no noise at all. The starter is brand new, but I've noticed the lights were blinking a week before all this happened. The battery is making all kinds of noise and the starter isn't clicking at all.

Hi,

Are you hearing noise from the battery itself? Is it possible for you to record and upload it for me to hear? You shouldn't be getting noise from the battery, so it is a concern for me.

Also, prior to this, which light or lights were flashing?

Let me know.

Joe
