Ignition intermittently not working

Put the key in to start the car sounds like no connection take the key out put the key back in and it still starts has done this a few times.

Hi,

There could be an issue with the connector between the lock cylinder (where the key goes) and the actual ignition switch. If you look at the pics below, I highlighted the two. Note they are two separate components.

When this happens and it doesn't work, do the dash lights turn on or does absolutely nothing happen. I'm trying to determine if it is an issue with the ignition switch, a relay issue, or a bad starter.
