Hi,

Is the check engine light on? Also, do you have a live data scan tool? If you do, could you provide me with the short-term fuel trims?

Keep in mind, what you described can be the result of a few things. For example, it could be a faulty fuel pressure regulator, a partially clogged catalytic converter, or even a plugged air filter.

Let me know if you have the fuel trims, if you notice any dark smoke from the exhaust, or any strange odors from the vehicle. If you want, here is a link that explains how to test the fuel pressure and pressure regulator. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but most parts stores will lend one to you if needed.

I attached the fuel pressure specifications below.

Let me know. Additionally, let me know if the check engine light has come on or has flashed on and off while driving.

Take care,

Joe

Check engine light is on. My OBD machine won't work on it but works on my car, not sure why. I will check the air filter. Do you know where the fuel pressure regulator is? I've been told 3 different places and can't find it. Thanks, Sue.

Because it is a 4.0L, the fuel pressure is controlled by the fuel pressure regulator which is mounted to the fuel pump bracket within the fuel tank. The fuel pressure regulator is not serviceable. We need to check the pressure to see if it is high.

As far as connecting to the data link connector, confirm pin 16 has battery voltage. It should at all times.

Let me know.

Joe

How do I check battery voltage. I checked air filter was very dirty and had a very large mouse nest in it. Started it, sounds better. Will drive it and see. Thank you, Sue.

Hi,

All you need to do is check if there is power at the pin I mentioned. You can use a test light, a multimeter, or a voltmeter. Anything that can identify there is power present.

Here are a couple of links you may find helpful:

Let me know if this helps.

Joe
