Has the check engine light turned back on? Have you checked to make sure he didn't leave anything disconnected such as wiring harness, vacuum line, the air induction tube and so on?
If the light isn't on, the first thing I would do is check for engine vacuum leaks. Because of where he was working, it is possible that a vacuum line was left disconnected or damaged. Also, make sure the air induction tube between the throttle body and air filter is seated properly and tight. Any unmetered air entering the engine will cause idle issues..
