Does a 2006 Chevy Express 1500 5.3 l have an ignition control module or is the ignition system completely ran by the ECM and if it has an ICM then may I ask for its location on this specific model.

Hi,

On this vehicle, the ignition system is controlled by the powertrain control module and several other sensors. For example, the PCM uses signals from the knock sensor, crankshaft position sensor, coolant temperature sensor, mass air flow sensor, and so on to determine the most efficient air-fuel mixture and ignition timing for the conditions.

The ignition control module went away when the distributor was eliminated.

Explain to me what is happening. For example, is there a loss of spark to the plugs? If so, the most common cause is a failed crankshaft position sensor.

If that is the case, take a look through this link and let me know if anything mirrors what you experience:

If it is something different, let me know what is happening and if you have any diagnostic trouble codes, let me know what they are.

Take care and I'll watch for your reply.

Joe
