The car was sounding like a brake was locked. Took the tire off and saw this grease, looks like packing grease to me, in a very specific pattern. A y ideas on what this came from? No obvious tears or cracks the grease came from. Thanks

Ok so I'm pretty sure it's this clamp. I should be able to replace with a new clamp, correct? Also saw a video about grease syringe to replace any lost grease. I haven't found any tears or holes yet.

So this is the clamp that was on the steering arm boot, the one I think failed. It looks like a hose clamp not a boot clamp. I don't know. What do you think? What should be my course of action?

Apparently that's the normal clamp, weird. So I went a head and ordered a new cv axle and I'm just going to replace that since I'm pretty sure it's problematic. Im not sure if that's the problem. I pick up the axle tomorrow anything I should be aware of changing this axle?

Yep, the steering rack bellow does not make that kind of pattern, it is the CV axle that is doing it. It think this video will help you do the job correctly.

Please let me know what happens. Thanks for the images, they helped.

So I'm stuck on this rack and pinion nut. The whole bolt spins with no head on the bottom. Is this a common issue?

Yes, I would lave that alone and just undo the lower ball joint, turn the steering al the way to left or right, whatever way that gives you more slack then lift the spindle out of the way to remove the CV axle. I think it shows how to do it in the video. You do not need to remove the tie rod.

Ya that video really isn't helpful since the whole wheel assembly is different, I drive a sedan not a suv crossover. Hit squeeze bolt is on the side, mine is blocked by the cv axle.

Ok might be able to get ball joint but it needs to be completely removed because the only way to disconnect from the structure needs to be lowered off. Which means need to completely remove ball joint stud. Will this compromise the ball joint?

Popped the ball joint lose but can't get it out. Maybe pry rods but the thr assembly that holds the well assembly has to come off the strut. I don't have a lift just Jack's and stands.

Cool thanks. My car isn't on a lift and doesn't have a nice area to get a pry bar in. So I'll keep trying with a 3' long screwdriver from the side.

Ok let me rephrase question. I know it's locked in unsure if in all the way. If I reassemble the knuckle and wheel assembly will that hold the axle straight enough to hit with a dead blow hammer to be sure? Thanks

So it sounds like you are installing the CV axle now correct? If so then yes you can strike the end of the axle with a dead blow hammer to make sure it is seated correctly. But I would use a piece of wood in between the too so you don't damage the threads.
