I just can't figure out how to remove the cables, I have the heater control loose in the dash, but can't get the cables off because I don't know how.

YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE THE A/C PANEL THE KNOB IS ON. THEIR IS A MOLDING THAT COVERS THE A/C CONTROLS AND OTHER PANELS OR RADIO. USE A SCREW DRIVER TO TRY AND PRY THIS MOLDING OFF. IT IS HELD ON WITH LITTLE METAL CLIPS ONCE YOU GET IT STARTED COMING OFF YOU WILL SEE THE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE A/C PANEL IN. JUST REMOVE THEM AND REMOVE THE A/C CONTROL PANEL. YOU MAY FIND THE CABLE IS STILL GOOD THE KNOB ASSY, HAS BROKEN AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.

Yeah, I know, but how do I get the cables free of the unit? That's the part I can't figure out.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE CLIP THAT RETAINS THE CABLE IS BUILT INTO THE A/C PLATE. A LOT OF CAR DEALER DO IT LIKE THAT. IT POPS IN AND OUT USING A SCREW DRIVER TO PRY IT OFF THE PLATE. BEING CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE RETAINING CLIPS. THEN PUT THE NEW ONE IN PLACE AND TAP WITH A RUBBER HAMMER UNTIL FULLY SEATED.
