I was driving my truck today and everything was working fine. I stopped someplace and came back to the truck and put it in reverse and it went in fine but then when I went to try and put it into drive the shifter was very lose and it would not change gears at all it was stuck in reverse and the shifter was doing nothing like it was not attached anymore. I am thinking that the shifter cable may have broke but I'm not positive I don't know a ton about fixing this kind of stuff. Any suggestions on what this problem could be and how difficult it would be to fix myself thanks.

You could be right but no one is going to know until someone examines the car to find out.
