I have been hearing a loud grinding/humming type noise while driving (wheels in motion, not while idling or in park), similar to bearing noise but not as much like an airplane. I had my rear wheel bearings replaced about two years ago and I remember the noise as well as what it felt like while driving. This noise sounds more like a grinding sound and does not seem to change much while turning the wheel in either direction.
I am experiencing the same looseness in the steering wheel but am not getting the vibration/shaky feeling as this is more like a bounce or rocking side to side.
I recently had all brakes replaced, shocks and struts, stabilizer bar bushings, all four tires, inner and outer front tie rods, and front right axle, as well as the alternator.
Since then, I had the front left CV boot tear in half but I was hearing the noise (just not as loud) before this happened.
I am curious as to what this could be and what I should ask the mechanic specifically to check when getting an inspection. I know there could be several possibilities but I want to make sure nothing gets overlooked and want to try to avoid an expensive guessing game if at all possible.
Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.
