Is it possible to scan CEL fault codes using digital multimeter? My car uses OBD1. The multimeter keeps flashing numbers rapidly making it hard to discern pauses.

My 1997 Sonata has 12-pin connector and CEL does not blink when appropriate terminals are probed, only numbers flashing rapidly on multimeter. No Autozone in my area.
