Our car when ideling in drive runs rough and then surges and idles smoothly. The wife took it to a shop and they cleaned the throttle plates. This seemed to work for a short time and it is now back. She told me yesterday it is now doing it in driving. She said at normal driving speed appx. 35 0r 40 the engince seems to hold back and then lurches. No check engine light has ever come on. It seems to be getting progressivly worse. The garage said they cannot find a issue.

Lack of acceleration, chugging, hesitating, bogging etc. Could be caused by one of the following below.

Probable causes:

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard.
