It rained heavy this weekend and on Monday the car started but idled rough and the check engine light came on. It can barely chug along on a level road and cant make it up a small hill. This happened once before after raining and the problem cleared up after letting it idle for about an hour. It seems that something is getting wet and causes a problem until it dries out. Can you tell me what it could be.

Chance are you need new plug wires. Here is a little test. At night and in the dark, start the engine, open the hood, and mist water on the plug wires, distributor cap... and see if there is anything arcing. If there is, that is where the problem is.

Let me know what you find.
