2003 Hyundai Santa Fe malfunction light

My malfunction indicator light came on while I was driving, but the car drives fine and as far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with the car. What can I check before I take it to the dealership? I was thinking maybe my gas cap wasnt clicked three times when I put gas in the other day. If this is the problem and I rescrewed my cap on correctly how long will it take before my indicator light goes off?

Hi kvantleven,

You can get a free scan at any Autozone outlets to determine if it is the gas cap.

If it is, the CEL would go of by itself but there is no fixed time initerval.
